Program Overview
Southwest General sponsored a very successful PMSR-24 from 1999-2007 and began the PMSR/RRA-36 in 2021. During the gap we have been training residents from University Hospitals which has been phased out as Southwest residents replaced the UH residents. Currently a total of 5 residents are in training (1 PGY-1’s. 2 PGY-2, and 1-PGY-3 transfer. a pending PGY-3 transfer) At the present time we are approved for a total of 4 residents at all times with pending approval for the current transfer resident. Going forward we plan to have two residents starting July 1, 2025 pending approval. With few exceptions training occurs at the hospital, nearby hospital surgery center, and offices on the hospital main campus. The program offers excellent volume and diversity of surgical procedures as well as a high volume of hospital and office patients. Once selected, it is desirable for residents to live near the hospital as we have a busy ED. Call is divided by 5 residents. In addition to salary and standard hospital employee benefits, $1500 per resident per year is available to reimburse for any training related expenses.
