Program Overview
Southwest General sponsored a very successful PMSR from 1999-2007 and began the PMSR/RRA in 2021. Between our own programs we have been training residents from University Hospitals which is being gradually phased out as Southwest residents replace the UH residents. Currently a total three residents are in training (one in each training year) which will continue going forward. With few exceptions training occurs at the hospital, nearby hospital surgery center, and offices on the hospital main campus. The program offers excellent volume and diversity of surgical procedures as well as a high volume of hospital and office patients. Once selected, it is desirable for residents to live near the hospital as we have a busy ED. Call is divided by 3 residents. In addition to salary and standard hospital employee benefits, $1500 per resident per year is available to reimburse for related expenses.
