Residents attend the AO/ACFAS Basic Principles of Foot and Ankle Trauma and Reconstructive Surgery for DPMs course as a PGY-1. They will attend the AO/ACFAS Advanced course as a PGY-2 and the ACFAS Arthroscopy course as a PGY-3. Participation in the ACFAS Annual Scientific Conference and Florida Podiatric Medical Association state meeting is highly encouraged. Option to participate in international mission trips.

Program Emphasis:

A comprehensive approach to elective and non-elective surgery, trauma, wound care, and limb salvage, as well as practice management. Excellent balance of clinical, academic, and surgical experience. Many past residents have successfully matched with fellowships, entered into group practices, and started private clinics as solo entrepreneurs.

Program Overview

HCA Florida Northwest Hospital is a 36-month, PMSR/RRA program. There is a strong emphasis on elective forefoot, hindfoot, and ankle surgery, limb salvage and wound care, lower extremity trauma, and clinical patient management. Residents are expected to have excellent communication skills, be self-motivated, and work cohesively as a team. Two residents are accepted per year, open to all colleges of podiatric medicine. Recent graduates with approximately 2200 procedures. Visits to the hospital are strongly recommended.
